Renovation of the Baltimore Hostel is in Full Swing
August 2006

Over the first six months of 2006, volunteers have been busy tearing down walls, scraping, sanding, priming, patching, and painting. Funded in part by a Heritage grant from Baltimore City, contractors have been hired for the major kitchen renovations, including the addition of an accessible family room and bath on the first floor. First-floor construction will be completed this summer.

While work on the public spaces is well underway, there are plenty of projects for volunteers to continue, including improvements to the ground floor parlors, hosteller bathrooms, and the conversion of second-floor efficiency apartments into hostel dormitories. Our premier summer event, the “Build Our Deck Party,” will happen over the Labor Day weekend with hostellers welcomed by early 2007.

We’re getting closer and closer, but without your help it’s not going to happen so come on by and lend an arm or leg.
